How the calculation works
Distance is converted to kilometres. Fuel use is calculated from the selected economy unit, then multiplied by the price per litre. Return journeys double the entered one-way distance.
Formula: Litres = distance in km ÷ 100 × L/100km. UK MPG converts using 282.481 ÷ MPG.
Worked example
A 100-mile return journey at 40 UK MPG uses about 11.4 litres. At £1.50 per litre, the estimated fuel cost is about £17.06.
