How the calculation works
All annual cost categories are added together. The total is divided by 12 for monthly cost and by mileage for per-mile and per-kilometre cost.
Formula: Annual total = sum of all categories. Cost per mile = annual total ÷ annual mileage.
Worked example
£6,000 in annual costs over 10,000 miles equals £500 per month and £0.60 per mile.
What can affect the result?
Unexpected repairs, finance terms, depreciation, parking and changing energy prices can materially alter ownership cost.
